Civil Service Commission holds first meeting (31/08/07)

Following its formation by a presidential decree this month, the National Civil Service Commission convened its first meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Professor Moses Machar. The meeting took place in the premises of the commission’s administration in Khartoum with the attendance of the newly appointed members.

Proffesor Machar stated that the commission was established in accordance with the provision of CPA and the National Transitional Constitution for 2005. He expressed optimism regarding the entrustment of the presidency of this responsibility to him and the members of the commission and assured the meeting that they would try their best to deliver the expected service to the nation.

Machar explained that article 6 of the commission law stipulates that the institution will give advice to the government regarding the policies of employment in the public service and in solving the problems related to the civil service.

He said that the constitution has specified transitional duties for the commission which are policies of training and employment in the national civil service with the allocation of 20% to 30% of jobs to the qualified people in the South during the first three years of the transitional period. He pointed out that the constitution authorizes the commission to assess these policies during the three years.
