British Minister of Development Cooperation arrives in Khartoum (20/07/07)


Sudanese and British parties have held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the outset of a visit paid to Sudan by the British Minister of Developmental Cooperation, Douglas Alexander, according to reports.
 
 
The Sudanese side included the Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Al-Tigani Salih Fedail, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Al-Samani Al-Wasila Al-Samani. The British minister expressed his pleasure to visit Sudan to work for consolidation of the historic relations between the two countries.

He expressed his desire to boost the efforts for realizing peace and stability and preservation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CAP).

In a press statement, Ambassador Khidir Haroun said that the British minister asserted his country's keenness to hold consultation with Sudan government concerning the role of the Security Council for achievement of peace.

He said that the aim of the British minister's visit is to get acquainted with all dimensions of peace issue, adding that the British minister appreciated the clarifications which were given to him by the Sudanese party.

Meanwhile, the Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Al-Tigani Salih Fedail, said that the contribution of the international community, and the donors especially, is below the ambitions, hoping that Britain will play a role to remind the international community with its commitments for boosting peace in Sudan.

He said that the talks between the Sudanese and British parties are focused on the political and economic dimension of the peace process, stressing that knowledge about all dimensions of the issue will make easy its solution.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Al-Samani Al-Wasila Al-Samani, affirmed Sudan keenness to enhance its relations with Britain. He cast light on the ongoing efforts and outcome of the recent Tripoli conference, re-emphasizing the government keenness to implementation of peace agreement. Al-Samani reflected Sudan aspiration for a partnership with Britain and the international community for realizing development.
