Syrian president orders sending of relief items to Sudan (18/07/07)

Syrian president Bashar Al Assad has instructed his ambassador to Khartoum to hold consultations with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs so as to coordinate Syrian assistance for the flood-affected population in Sudan.

Undersecretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Charlis Manyang said that Syrian president Al Assad was most concerned about the flood situation in the country. "Al Assad has already given his order for the concerned authorities to send a plane loaded with relief items to Sudan." he said.

The plane is scheduled to be arriving in two days time.
