Khartoum State promotes infrastructures (10/07/07)


Khartoum State has affirmed its commitment to prioritize implementation of all developmental and service projects incorporated in its 5-year plan. In a press conference that included the State Minister of Urban Planning, the Minister of Information, Sayed Haroun stated that what has been implemented by the Ministry of Urban Planning and Khartoum Water Corporation should be labelled as a quality step.
 
 

Meanwhile the Urban Planning Minister, Abdul Wahab Mohammed Osman revealed that his Ministry had funded Khartoum Water Corporation to the tune of SD 37 and 47 billion in 2006 and 2007 respectively. He also said that his Ministry targets renewal of all water networks in the old residential quarters of Khartoum.

He added that the plan includes five new potable water stations: Soba, Jebel Aulia, Al-Rief Alshimali, Burri and Manarah stations.

Soba Station cost SD 40 Million and produces 1000 cmd aims at supplying water to East and South Khartoum. Jebel Aulia Station is projected to supply 65,000 cmd, while Al-Rief Alshimali, Burri and Manarah are expected to produce 150, 50 and 200 thousand cmd respectively.

The Minister noted that the sewerage system budget that amounts to $ 55 million has been earmarked for Soba and Haj Yousif Sewerage Water Treatment Stations.
Regarding roads and bridges, Osman, went on to say that they have implemented Al-Menshia, Mak Nimir, Halfaia and Dabasein Bridges.

Dabasein Bridge, which would principally service Khartoum New International Airport, will cost some $37 million to be covered by the State and Bank of Abu Dhabi.

The Urban Planning Minister added that, his Ministry targets the construction of 450 km in terms of roads within Khartoum in addition to highways to the tune of $ 45 million.

He further stated that preparations for the rainy season were completed where drainage system has been rehabilitated, particularly Al-Azhari sector that cost over SD 10 billion.

Khartoum Water Corporation Director, Khalid Ali Khalid affirmed that the Corporation is well prepared for all contingencies with regard to the installation and operation of the projected water stations. He further attributed the occasional disruptions in domestic water supply to the increase in Khartoum population density.
